Why are AMC, Loews, and other large name movie theaters criminally expensive and overpriced?

Are these businesses hurting financially in any way? I don't think so. So why must I pay anywhere from 9 to 13 dollars to see a movie? And anywhere from 14 to 30 dollars for snacks? Give me a logical or strong answer please.
